The School for the Future of Innovation in Society (SFIS) and the Institute for the Future of Innovation in Society (IF/IS) are searching for a Senior Manager of Communication and Marketing Strategy to supervise and coordinate communications, marketing, promotion, outreach, and public relations functions of a new and growing, entrepreneurial School and Institute. In conjunction with School and Institute Leadership, the successful candidate will develop and implement the communication strategies, tactics, and key messages. This position will work with faculty and staff to develop content and materials that effectively market the variety of SFIS and IF/IS activities, and disseminate information and ideas to internal constituents including faculty, staff, students, alumni, donors, as well as a broad range of constituencies outside the university community. The Senior Manager of Communication and Marketing Strategy will develop and maintain professional relationships throughout the University and relevant local, regional, and national groups and audiences to promote goals and programs and further the mission of IF/IS and SFIS.

• In coordination with leadership, develops strategy for and manages implementation of activities aimed at gaining local, national and global recognition for IF/IS and SFIS’s people and activities, working to position IF/IS and SFIS as leading sources of ideas and programs for improving the contribution of science and technology to the achievement of social goals. • In coordination with the leadership, develops strategy for and manages media relations, social and other digital media, and publicity for events, activities, products, and people. • Provides strategic coordination for IF/IS and SFIS websites. Identifies information needs, develops content, and ensures continuous improvement of e-strategies. • Develops and manages creation/design of electronic and printed materials that represent and project School and Institute activities, ideas, and people. • Works with faculty and staff to expand audiences for various IF/IS and SFIS activities and products. Helps faculty and staff place written work products in appropriate media outlets. • Ensures consistency, clarity, and accuracy in language and design of all communication efforts, including all media and publicly disseminated information. • Aligns IF/IS and SFIS communications with University-wide messaging, maintaining the Enterprise Brand and Marketing Guidelines and coordinating with ASU’s media relations and communications teams. • Ensures development and maintenance of positive press relations, including overseeing all news releases and press questions/conferences. • Works with IF/IS and SFIS directors to develop a strategy and messaging for development activities. Assists other staff in preparation of development-related written materials. • Develops and manages market research for new and expanding programs as necessary. • Participates in the development of budget requests and strategic plans and works within defined budget parameters. • Coordinates flow and content of internal organizational communications within and among SFIS and IF/IS faculty, staff, and students. • Manages the activities of relevant staff; supervises a small, entrepreneurial group of communications and graphics staff and student workers as appropriate. • Supervises outside vendors relevant to ongoing marketing and communications projects. • Performs other duties as assigned.

• Superb communication skills, both verbal and written, required. • Experience developing, implementing, and managing the full range of communication activities and products for a complex academic or similar organization focused on achieving observable impact both within and outside of academia. • Demonstrated ability to devise effective communication strategies for multiple audiences, from academia to policy makers to the general public. • Demonstrated ability to market complex and diverse programs and products to multiple and diverse audiences. • Experience working with and developing contacts within the news media (print, web, television, radio) at national and local levels. • Experience coordinating and supervising staff/students working on the full range of communications activities. Experience in establishing and maintaining effective and ongoing relationships with people working in a wide range of job functions and responsibilities across a complex, fast-paced organization.

Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Marketing or closely related field AND five (5) years of experience in a public relations/marketing role; OR, Any equivalent combination of education and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.
