Job Purpose The Senior Account Executive plans, organizes and manages work flow for the account team on a day-to-day and long-term basis under the direction of more senior account team members. The Senior Account Executive provides increasingly complex client counsel, has well-established relationships with trade, business, blogger media and analysts. Provides leadership to the account team to ensure client goals are met. The Senior Account Executive is capable of managing a small account alone with minimal supervision and manages day-to-day work for multiple accounts. Senior Account Executives often meet with the client alone and must offer strategies/recommend programs with which the client will feel comfortable and confident. Supervisory Structure The Senior Account Executive will be supervised by an Account Director or senior level manager but may take day-to-day direction from an Account Supervisor. The Senior Account Executive may have supervisory responsibility for multiple individuals on a team, including Assistant Account Executives, Account Coordinators, Team Assistants and/or Interns, and may oversee the day-to-day work of an Account Executive to ensure successful execution of account activity.

Essential duties and responsibilities Client - Plans, schedules, implements and leads activity required to execute client programs. - Understands the role of public relations within the client’s marketing plan and meets with clients on a regular basis to set strategy and plan activities to meet client goals. - Advises client of appropriate action using research, public relations tools, creativity, knowledge of industry, competitive intelligence and overall marketing plan. - Reviews and provides input for long-term PR plans (depending on team size, clients, etc.). - Engages services provided by other internal teams (e.g. Writing, Speakers Bureau) as needed. - Oversees the development and production of appropriate client reports. Research/writing - Writes and/or edits the majority of the materials required to implement client programs including short-term PR plans, long term PR plans, strategy documents and presentations. - Writes and edits thoughtful news releases, contributed articles, award applications, case studies, pitches, etc. Media, analyst & blogger relations - Continues to develop traditional, social media and analyst relationships at more senior levels. Is capable of reaching and engaging in successful dialogue with executive editors, national business press. - Can successfully orchestrate significant coverage for news and major announcements - Scans media regularly to maintain current knowledge of client’s industry and competitive environment. - Reads key national media daily. Individual - Provides leadership, acts as a role model and serves as a knowledge/ information resource for the account team. - Ensures quality and timely delivery of products/services by the account team. - Receives budget reports for internal purposes/team discussions. Begins to hold responsibility for operating within budget. - Completes a daily timesheet to accurately reflect billable and non-billable time and meets billability goals. - Attends applicable professional development. - Performs additional related duties as required. Possible additional duties and responsibilities - May manage small account or business unit with minimal supervision. - Begins to assume additional leadership roles within the agency including mentoring junior staff and helping prepare the Account Executive for the next level of management (e.g., leadership of internal meetings, hosting brainstorms, etc.) - May drive the development of new business presentations. - Expected to help grow business organically. - Attends new business pitches.

- Consistently excellent writing and proofreading skills. Can write effective client letters, PR plans, pitch letters and abstracts. - Can add value (i.e. content knowledge, proofreading and client receptivity feedback) when reviewing news releases, articles, backgrounders, etc. - Consistently excellent verbal communication skills: Articulates thoughts persuasively in one-on-one and in group situations. - Solid understanding of public relations. - Solid understanding of marketing (i.e. channels, strategies, vehicles, tactics). - Clear understanding of infrastructure/landscape of client’s industry and knows key players (e.g. bloggers, analysts, gurus, industry consultants, etc.). - Consistently recommends most appropriate PR tactics for clients. - Excellent presentation skills; is perceived favorably by clients as a “go-to” professional; can run a meeting; can speak effectively in public.

- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent related work experience. Degree/experience in public relations, journalism, communications or related field preferred. - 4+ years’ experience in public relations (agency or corporate), marketing communications, journalism (related industry publication) or related field. Experience with medical clients preferred but not required.
