The Secure, Trusted, and Assured Microelectronics (STAM) Center in the School of Computing and Augmented Intelligence (SCAI) within the Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering is searching for a Research Editor to work on the Tempe Campus. This individual will work closely and collaboratively with the Principal Investigator (PI), key project team members, and other stakeholders in the preparation of non-technical aspects of grant and progress reports, review technical articles by students and researchers by editing, proof reading for content clarity, content, organization and assist with illustrations and graphics. The successful candidate will be a key contributor to increasing the visibility (internally and externally) and effectiveness of the STAM Center.
Provides editorial oversight of proposal content ensuring compliance with project description specifications and mandatory requirements, proposal-specific writing style, proof-reading, editing grammar and punctuation, and the creation of a multi-author cohesive voice.
Provides editorial oversight responsibility for research publications including updating Signature Research, white paper submissions, research articles for government and industry newsletters, fliers and announcements for conferences, workshops, and outreach events.
Assists the research enterprise with information sessions, forums and workshops providing one to one assistance targeting specific funding opportunities and strategic initiatives.
Assists graduate students, and Center colleagues with writing and editing collateral relevant to recruitment and promotional activities including brochures and assisting in other venues where information gathering, compiling and dissemination are needed.
Writes articles and works in conjunction with other writers, assigns stories, and prepares news and general feature articles for publication.
Collaborates, interviews, and consults with faculty on engineering research articles written to ensure consistency and accuracy.
Creates electronically designed web pages using web development software and responsible for monitoring, updating, and maintaining appropriate sites.
Supervises activities of subordinates.
Directs multiple projects with varying deadlines.
Uses a variety of desktop publishing, graphic design, and web development/management tools.
Monitors and coordinates the photography, artwork, layout and preparation of the copy for publication.
Develops, produces, edits and oversees content of web-based materials.
Knowledge of science, engineering, and arts relating to higher education issues and trends.
Demonstrated Knowledge of management and supervision practices.
Demonstrated Knowledge of editorial policies, procedures, and style manuals.
Demonstrated Knowledge and strong understanding of available resources in oversight and editing of scientific research proposals and publications.
Demonstrated Skill in verbal, visual, and written communications including the ability to express ideas in a clear and logical manner with strong attention to detail.
Experience in the use of various software packages including desktop publishing, web development and graphic design.
Experience working in print journalism, science writing, copy editing, publication technology and policy/procedures of sponsored proposals.
Demonstrated Skill in editorial proof-reading complex subjects targeted to audiences with varying knowledge and understanding.
Evidence of an ability in interviewing, collaborating, and developing strong relationships with a variety of individuals.
Evidence of establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.
Bachelor's degree in Journalism, English or related field AND six (6) years experience editing and writing for professional publications or sponsored proposal submission; OR, any equivalent of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.
