Position details: The Communications Manager is responsible for written and oral communications that support BCBSAZ’s senior executives, specifically the CEO and chief medical officer (CMO). The Manager will collaborate with other members of the Corporate Communications team to ensure consistent voice and messaging for the development of these internal and external communications. The Manager serves as a strategic communications adviser, from the assessment of opportunities and engagements, to the execution of presentations, speeches, talking points, videos, social media content and written materials. This is a full time position which is defined as working 40 hours per week plus any additional hours as requested or as needed to meet business requirements. • Act as a back-up for the Director of Public Relations and Corporate Communications and assist in other relevant departmental matters, as needed. • Develop comprehensive executive communications platforms that reach both internal and external audiences in support of BCBSAZ’s strategic direction, ensuring they are aligned with PR and Internal communication activities. • Identify and analyze impacted audiences and challenges, including risk mitigation strategies and tactics. • Define and measure success metrics and monitor receptivity to the communications in order to further tailor messaging and approach. • Strategize and draft key leadership messages for a given audience, including but not limited to employees, brokers, employers, vendors and community members. • Participate in developing plans and executing deliverables addressing issues that could impact the company’s overall reputation among customers, new and traditional media, and government officials and regulators. • Prepare specific and detailed briefings about communication outcomes. • Drive the creation of executive communications through to completion with great autonomy, but in consultation from Director of PR & Corp Communications, including text for speeches, op-eds, talking points, presentations, essays, articles, video scripts, website copy, correspondence, bi-annual leadership meetings, Town Hall, all-employee meetings, and other projects. • Consult with executives on preparing them for public appearances, including participating in media training, development of talking points, assistance with logistics. • Work with the PR and Internal Communication teams to spot trends and issues in advance, so that exceuctive communication strategies may be refined. • Monitors the healthcare, political, business industries through internal and external resources and generates ideas for content; conducts background research, interviews and literature reviews. • Partner with other Marketing employees to develop executive content such as videos, presentations, press releases, articles, etc. • Ensure communications are on brand and follow guidelines. • Work on multiple, simultaneous communications programs that require both strategic thinking as well as high-speed tactical execution. • Manage third-party vendors, including external consultants, agencies, designers, printers and freelancers, and associated budgets to ensure strategic and cost-effective use of services. • Provide on-site support as needed for executive engagements. • Assist the BCBSAZ crisis communications response team when executive communications are needed. • Collaborate with design team on high-quality, differentiated visual presentations for senior executives. • Provides writing and editing support across the Corporate Communications team, as needed or assigned. • Serve as a trusted advisor to project sponsors in their roles as leaders of change.

Required Work Experience • 8 years experience in communications, public affairs or public relations • 6 years of project management experience Preferred Work Experience • 5 years of experience leading the design and implementation of change management and communications strategies in a complex organization • 5 years working directly with senior executives to achieve their desired outcomes • 5 years of management experience Required Education • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, or related field Preferred Education • Master’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, or related field Preferred Certifications • Accreditation in Public Relations (APR) • Communication professional certification (e.g., ABC)
