North Central News, an established monthly community publication, is seeking an experienced editor/writer to produce and manage its news and photo content. North Central focuses on the north and central Phoenix corridor, distributing 27,000 copies via mail and rack locations to residents of the area. The successful candidate will be responsible for gathering, writing, and editing information about the area’s news, events, and people.

Job responsibilities include but are not limited to planning the monthly story budget, writing two to three original stories per month, soliciting and copyediting submissions, taking and editing photographs, working with freelance writers and managing social media postings.

A working knowledge of Photoshop, proficiency in Mac-based technology and familiarity with the North Central Phoenix area are desired.

Interested candidates must have a degree in journalism or a related field and a minimum of two years experience in reporting, writing, and copyediting. Proficiency in AP style, grammar, usage, proofreading, and meeting deadlines also is required.

While the hours of the job are primarily 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, some occasional nights and weekends may be required for attendance at local meetings and special events.
