Western Spirit: Scottsdale’s Museum of the West is seeking a Communications and Marketing Manager with proven strategic and tactical marketing communications and media relations skills.
Supervisory Responsibilities: This position supervises the PR/Marketing Coordinator. Essential Responsibilities: -Directs and implements overall marketing and public relations strategies and tactics -Leads the museum’s media relations/publicity efforts including story/pitch generation, press release writing and editing, media outreach and follow-up -Serves as the primary writer, editor, proofreader and message gatekeeper for the museum -Maintains the museum brand and design standards in marketing and communications materials -Writes public-facing museum communications including brochures, press releases, advertisements, and invitations. Edits and directs digital (website, e-newsletter) and social media content -Provides communications and marketing counsel to leadership -Provides communications support including messaging, editing, proofreading and print material production/distribution to internal customers including curatorial, visitor services/membership, programs/events, education, development, private use, and the museum store -Plans, negotiates and implements media buys within marketing budget constraints; traffics ad production; oversees marketing department invoice processing -Works with outside vendors including advertising representatives, printers, direct mail fulfillment services, photographers and graphic designers -Works with collectors, board members, sponsors, City of Scottsdale staff members, individual community members and organizations to promote the museum, its exhibitions and its programs/events -Other duties as assigned
The ideal candidate will possess the following experience, qualifications and attributes: -Bachelor’s degree and at least seven years of professional experience in public relations, mass communication, journalism, media relations or marketing -Proven ability to generate publicity through media relations and digital marketing channels -Proven ability to leverage limited resources, resulting in increased sales -Superior writing, editing and proofreading skills -Previous marketing or communications position with a museum, nonprofit organization, arts/culture/historical institution or tourist destination -Able to prioritize and handle multiple assignments at one time, delivering quality work on deadline -Able to work collaboratively with diverse groups of people, as well as independently -Strong organizational skills and attention to detail -Working knowledge of AP Style -Proficient in Microsoft applications including Word, Excel, Outlook, Publisher and PowerPoint -Proficiency in InDesign or PhotoShop a plus -Professional in appearance and demeanor
Undergraduate degree and seven years in the profession, preferably with experience in the non-profit work environment
