Snell & Wilmer, one of the largest law firms in the western United States, is seeking a full-time communications specialist to work out of the firm’s Phoenix office. This individual will report to the firm’s director of communications and support the marketing and business development department in all aspects of the firm’s social media and public relations activities, including strategic planning, media relations, legal alerts and newsletters, awards and rankings, training, community involvement, event support, website content development/management, and various internal communications projects.
Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following: •Develop strategic social media plan; manage all facets of the firm’s social media/networking initiatives (LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Instagram, etc.) and blogs, including training attorneys and practice groups on appropriate platforms, monitoring content and reporting on analytics and trends •Oversee development and distribution process of all practice-specific newsletters and Phoenix-focused legal alerts •Drive key components (press releases, story development/pitching, message creation, etc.) of local and national media relations efforts for the firm’s Phoenix office; conduct media training sessions on as-needed basis •Meet with individual attorneys and practice groups on a regular basis and, on occasion, with other offices to understand and uncover potential newsworthy content •Develop strong relationships with key media outlets/contacts, as well as with principals of publications in which the firm publishes content •Identify and manage key award and ranking opportunities and ensure timely completion of submission materials •Maintain consistent firm-wide public relations guidelines •Manage day-to-day activities related to website news-related content •Draft weekly Marketing Minute internal communication for Phoenix office •Conduct and/or oversee internally focused online surveys •Serve as member of community involvement; and diversity & inclusion committees; support local and firm-wide activities as needed •Perform various administrative functions supporting firm-wide public relations efforts (assist national public relations agency with spokesperson identification, submit content to key aggregators, manage press clip recording, etc.) •Assist, as needed, with marketing department events and tasks
A bachelor’s degree in public relations/communications or related field is required, along with five to seven years of corporate or public relations agency experience. A background in legal marketing is strongly preferred. Candidates must present a professional and polished image. Occasional travel is expected. Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, PowerPoint and Excel is expected.
The successful candidate must possess strong written/verbal communication and project management skills, a sound understanding of corporate social media strategies and tactics, and front-line media relations experience; enjoy taking initiative with internal clients and working in a fast-paced team environment; and be able to manage multiple demands and priorities. Specific project demands or deadlines require work-hour flexibility on an as-needed basis.
